It’s beginning to look a lot like… chaos?

This fall, we were fortunate to purchase a house and are in the process of turning it into a home. Unpacking has been slow with both of us working full-time, but as my husband gradually uncovers our Christmas decorations from totes stored for a few years, our house feels homier. Family heirlooms, handmade grade school ornaments, traditions from years gone by, and memories of loved ones fill our hearts. It is a beautiful experience, albeit overwhelming.

As I was reminded at church yesterday, Christ brought peace amidst chaos from the minute he first breathed. The Prince of Peace came to the earth, born in an animal barn amid the storms and messes of life. We only need to ask for His peace in our hearts, and it’s there. As I pause and put things in perspective this Advent season, I’m grateful it’s beginning to feel like togetherness.

So I encourage all of you friends with this thought today: the magic of Christmas is not found in the perfection of the decorations or the lavishness of the gifts, but in the warmth of shared moments. Emmanuel: God is with Us. And maybe do not be afraid of making a wicked cinnamon apple cider cake, though the kitchen will most definitely get wrecked! New recipe on the way…
